Upapada Lagna is the Ardudha pada of the 12th house. The thing related to the 12th house is the Upapada Lagna.

Calculation of Upapada Lagna:

Firstly, you have to check the placement of the Lord of the 12th house, check that the Lord of the 12th house is present in which house in your horoscope. 

Also, check that the Lord of the 12th house is present in which house from the 12th house. Now count how far the Lord of the 12th house is present from the 12th house. Now count again three-position further. I have already discussed Upapada Lagna in detail. You can check from here.

Let's take an example:

Suppose the Lord of the 12th house is present in the 2nd house. Now you have to count from the 12th house till 2nd house, after counting from the 12th house till 2nd house, we find that the Lord of 12th house is present away three houses from the 12th house. We get a consecutive counting series like 12th house, 1st house and 2nd house.

Now again you have to count the same number of houses from the 2nd house hence we again get a consecutive counting series like 2nd house, 3rd house and 4th house. Now we have calculated our Upapada Lagna. Now our Upapada Lagna is the 4th house.

There are 2 exceptions in Upapada Lagna that are: Suppose the Lord of your 12th house is present in the 12th house then you have to count up to the next 10th houses from the 12th house. 

And if the Lord of 12th house is present in the 7th house from the 12th house then it means that the Lord of 12th house will be present in the 6th house and here you have to count up to the next 10th houses from the 6th house and after following this process, you will get Upapada Lagna.

Why Upapada Lagna is connected only with the 12th house?

Upapada Lagna is connected only with the 12th house because the 12th house is connected with the Marriage. 12th house is also connected with spirituality. The 12th house is the ruler of the Pisces zodiac sign and Venus gets exalted in the Pisces zodiac sign.
